Explanation of Courses:
Alpha: The course is based around small groups of about 12 people, hosted by one or two leaders whose role is to facilitate and encourage discussion. Each session begins with a meal providing an opportunity to get to know others in the small group. There is then a short DVD, which looks at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week. This is followed by a time of discussion in the small groups, where everyone is welcome to contribute their opinion, ask questions and discuss with the rest of the group. The emphasis is upon exploration and discovery in a relaxed and informal environment.
Alpha Marriage: The Marriage Course is very practical, giving any married couple the tools to build a strong and healthy marriage that lasts a lifetime. Over eight evenings spent together, couples talk about important issues that can get swept under the carpet in the rush of daily life. Topics covered include: recognising each other’s needs, learning to communicate effectively, resolving conflict, healing past hurts, knowing how to make each other feel loved, relating to parents and in-laws, great sex, making time for each other and having fun together.
Ante Natal: Everything from health in pregnancy to coping with labour to expectation and realities of parenthood.
Divorce Care: Find help for the pain of relationship breakdown, separation, divorce-Divorce Care is a fourteen week course that runs at St Albans Baptist and Spreydon Baptist churches-subjects covered include-anger-depression-loneliness-new relationships-financial survival-kid care. Encounter with God: This weekend will give you an opportunity to explore some ways in which you can connect with God through meditation, worship and listening. There will be teaching from the Word to help you discern areas in your life which may be hindering you from experiencing God and there will also be opportunity for personal prayer and ministry. Come and join with us in an exciting journey of discovering God afresh.
Life 101: Lessons for the Christian life; powerful and impacting truths to assist a strong foundation. For new and established believers this course will help propel the believer towards everything God has for your successful future. Lessons: New Birth/Grace/Faith/the opposition/having a correct perspective/ spiritual fuel/repentance/water baptism/the importance of church and small groups/ Baptism in the Holy Spirit and living for the cause. The focus of the course is on the practical application to Christian principles in our life. Based on a discussion based approach within a small group, Christians can learn and practice these techniques in a non threatening environment.
Matthews Gospel: Dramatised Matthews Gospel with challenging questions, video-based version of Matthew is great for making Jesus’ life and teachings come alive.
Men's Ministry: The Quest for Authentic Manhood is the foundational level or ground floor of manhood. This study focuses on a man’s core identity and gives an overview of basic manhood issues. It will help men deal with various identity issues by looking back at past wounds and other things that may have distorted their idea of biblical masculinity. Throughout the course of the study, men will learn how to clearly define manhood and will finally be able to give a succinct and passionate answer to the questions, “What is a man?” and “What am I living to be?”
Search for Life: The focus is on the work of Christ at the cross and how we can participate in our full inheritance. Humans beings are spectacular, puzzling, brilliant and broken. Why do so many contradictions exist in our lives? Everyone needs to understand the power of their internal cry for acceptance, value and belonging, the most basic struggles, and find a solution to them. Without insight and answers, we can resort to inadequate and destructive patterns of behaviour to address feelings of low self esteem, inadequacy, emptiness and insecurity.
