Meet the Team

Chris Chalmers - Senior Pastor

Hi, I’m Chris, my wife Sarah and I moved back to Christchurch in 2024 to join the awesome whanau here at SABC. Christchurch is my hometown and I have been praying for God to move here for over 25 years. I believe the local church is the hope of the world and love that I get to serve both God and the SABC community in this way. Having a background in theological teaching and training, I am passionate about the word of God being preached in the power of the Holy Spirit to bring about lasting transformation in peoples’ lives. In my downtime I love hanging out with people and having deep conversations as well as nerding out about anything Sci-Fi, historical and board game related. I also love to read and have an extensive book collection which my wife informs me is an entirely separate hobby (collecting books!). Sarah and I live out in the country north of the city where we have room for her horses. I you have any questions about the community at SABC or want to dig into questions about faith I would genuinely love to chat.

Seb Norman - Youth Pastor

Seb arrived at SABC in January 2017, after being called by God to move from England to Christchurch. He was previously doing youth work for a church in Bath for five years, as well as a degree in youth work and theology.

As Youth Pastor, Seb is responsible for running the church youth group, working in local schools, and overseeing what goes on for young adults here at SABC. He is passionate about connecting with young people from all walks of life and seeing them have the freedom to connect with God too.

Seb enjoys a good tramp, loves listening to people, is a self-confessed wind-up merchant, has porridge every morning, and inhales all things rugby - but won't be seen in a All Blacks jersey!

Tara Morris - Children & Families Pastor

Tara has been fellowshipping at SABC for over 13 years now. During this time she has enjoyed serving in many different capacities within church life, building on relationships and being an active part of the church community.

With a background as an ECE teacher, Tara looks forward to using some of those skills in her role as the Childrens and Families Pastor, which she began at the start of 2023. She is very much looking forward to collaborating with parents to support our tamariki to build their own foundations of faith and know how to connect with God so that they can hear from Him themselves.

Tara loves to spend time with her extended family in her hometown of Oxford, snuggling all seven nieces and nephews at once if possible. Otherwise, you can find her enjoying the tranquility of calm water on her paddleboard with friends, or letting her creativity fly loose at the helm of her sewing machine.

Esther Elliott - Social Media & Communications Manager

Esther is our newest addition to the SABC team, having joined in October 2023. Esther's role is to market the Church through the use of online media platforms. Having a degree in design, and some experience with other organizations, she has been enjoying using her skills for the church.

Esther has a love for art, and being outdoors, but spends most of her spare time with her young family.
